Finding comfort during Coronavirus

It’s time for some transparency, friends. I’ve never felt more unmotivated in my life than I have over the course of this last month.

For example, I wrote this blog entry on my phone, because my laptop was across the room and I didn’t want to get it. It’s gotten that bad.

Everyone is suffering from a lack of social interaction and a surplus of isolation, and it’s really difficult to see our friends and family struggling with their mental health during this time.

Our stay-at-home orders are difficult because we didn’t see them coming, no one prepared for it, and now we’re having a hard time adjusting.

Adjustment takes time, and quite frankly we weren’t given a lot of time to prepare for safety measures against COVID-19.

When you add in the anxiety over the pandemic, it just hasn’t been a pleasant mixture.

Our thoughts aren’t always kind to us, especially in long periods of isolation. Also, loneliness is a silent killer.

It’s human nature to spend a lot of time in our heads, even more so when we’re lonely and bored (so like every day during quarantine).

This is why it’s so important to have outlets of relaxation, peace, and positivity (aka self-care).

I am by no means an expert, but these are a few things I’ve been doing to help my mental health state over this last month.

First off, think about the positive aspects of your life currently. Like for me, I’ve been able to get my breakouts under control by giving my skin a break from makeup. Now I only do my makeup once a week.

Thinking positive seems like it’d be a no-brainer, but when you lack motivation it can take away the tiniest functions, so don’t beat yourself up if you’re struggling.

Start your day with talking to Jesus. It’s amazing what some meditation in the Bible can do for your outlook when you begin your day with it.

How amazing is it that we’ve been blessed with this opportunity to spend SO much time with our Creator? With no distractions at that.

Pick up your Bible and see what God is trying to teach you during this experience.

Clean out and organize! I found a whole Amazon gift card while cleaning out my room last week. Small blessings.

For college students like myself: dividing and conquering is our game plan, friends. On Monday, list out all of your assignments for the week and distribute them evenly in terms of due dates on weekdays. Don’t forget to take snack breaks, too.

Be kind to your family. I promise they are just as irritated with looking at your face every second of the day as you are irritated with looking at their face. So, play nice.

Also be kind to yourself. I know how hard it is to be completely unmotivated and feel like you’re failing because you aren’t accomplishing anything at the moment.

This is when we have to remind ourselves that all progress is progress, and we are in the same boat. Better days are coming.

Things are unsure and out of our control, but thankfully there is a larger picture that we can’t fully see in God’s control.

Give yourself time to rest. We all need it right now, no matter how much time we’re spending in bed.

With that being said, give it to God and go to bed. Even if it’s 3 p.m. We are on quarantine time, and that’s okay.
